National Center for Cultural Competence - Two-Part Webinar on Cultural and Linguistic Competence

Presenters:    Tawara D. Goode & Wendy A. Jones

Part I. Cultural Competence:  What Does it Mean for Family Resource Centers?

Child- and youth-serving systems and organizations continue to struggle with responding effectively to the interests, preferences, and needs of this nation's diverse populations and communities. Cultural competence and linguistic competence are viewed as an essential approaches for addressing diversity, and in reducing disparities by improving access, utilization, and service delivery, and ultimately the outcomes and well-being of children, families, and the communities in which they live. The first in a series of two Webinars will a) explore the importance of cultural competence,  b) describe a conceptual framework for advancing cultural competence at both the organizational and individuals levels, and 3) delineate the implications for cultural competence for family resource centers and personnel who provide supports to families of children and youth with disabilities, behavioral health, and special health care needs
